![]() ![]() It’s a big coup, making this the first Blizzard game to come to a Nintendo console since 2000’s StarCraft 64. Following months of rumours online ( and a not so subtle recent Twitter tease) last week Blizzard and Nintendo finally confirmed that the dungeon crawler will be slashing its way onto the hybrid console. Yes, Diablo III is coming to Switch later this year. Now though, after playing Diablo III’s long-demanded Switch port – I’ve finally seen the light. While hundreds of thousands of PC and console players still gleefully lose hours to Blizzard’s demonic dungeon-crawler, Diablo’s basic battling and limited skill trees never quite scratched either that RPG or MMO itch for me. ![]() Yet, from a gameplay standpoint, Diablo’s point and click combat has always felt overly simplistic. It was the game that first gave players that borderline-orgasmic rush that comes with earning randomly generated loot. It’s the franchise which almost single-handedly invented the action RPG. On paper, it’s a game that’s hard to dislike. ![]() ![]() My confession? I’ve never enjoyed Diablo. it becomes a case of 50% menus, 40% watching other people do menus, 10% having fun.Dear Gaming Father, forgive me, for I have sinned. I feel like everything that's vaguely similar suffers from character management stuff, and while that's not bad in single player, when you have 3 or 4 people all spending like 10 minutes at a time sorting out all their character upgrades, picking the best equipment, selling stuff they don't need, transmogging certain equipment etc. It was just a bunch of themed, well designed levels with lots of secrets, and a light level up system and shop that you access in the hub world for special abilities. whereas the 3D Gauntlet games were level based and super arcade like in structure. Stuff like D3 has the sort of isometric co-op RPG stuff, but it's way too loaded with story stuff, going from point a to point b, inventory management etc. Get Medieval was a good clone of the pre Legends Gauntlet games, but there's nothing like Legends or Dark Legacy, and it's such a shame. There was a thread about games you'd like to to play that are similar to games you like a few months back, and I said Legends/Dark Legacy, but had no replies. ![]()
